The Idea
In 2003, Frontrunner AG, an IT consulting services company, suffered a break-in at its Berlin offices. Stephan Feldhoff, former Frontrunner CEO, and a Util4 Security Systems founder, recruited a team of experts to research the feasibility and market opportunity for an IP-based security camera solution.

The Name
In the 20th century, three main utilities became ubiquitous: water, gas, and electricity. In the 21st century, broadband has become the 4th utility - delivering Internet, telephony, and unique applications such as such as security monitoring services. Util4 takes it's name from a shortened version of the 4th utility.
