Troubleshooting / FAQ

1) Cannot Achieve "Normal Operation" Status - SEQUENCE 1.
First check that the camera's power cables are connected and plugged into the 100V- 220V wall socket. The "Power" LED will light whenever the camera is receiving power.
Next, make sure that the DSL router / Cable modem is plugged in and turned on. If both of the above are OK, then check the network cable.
The network cable should be a "straight through" Ethernet Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable with RJ-45 connectors. Faulty wiring is often a cause of poor or interrupted connections. Try swapping cables and data jacks with your PC to eliminate the possibility that the cabling is at fault.
2) The camera appears to achieve "Normal Operation" status, but I didn't receive any alarm notification email.
Check to make sure that you've logged into your online account and entered your valid email address.
Wait up to 5 minutes for all pictures to be processed at the central server and the email notification to be sent. Depending on your personal email settings, you may be checking for mail only periodically, therefore this may delay the receipt of your email.
Verify that you are accessing the Internet with DHCP. In the administration console of your DSL router/ Cable modem, make sure that DHCP is enabled.
Another method of verification is on your PC. Check in Windows XP under:
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection > and Click the Support Tab.
Check that Address Type: is "Assigned by DHCP". If it is not, please check with your Internet Service Provider to see how to access the Internet via DHCP.
3) Unable to Arm/Disarm the Util4 Camera with the Remote Control Key Fob.
The key fob is a radio frequency device. Walls, doors and long distances may reduce transmission capabilities. First try operating the remote from a distance of approximately 2 meters, and then move further away to determine the range of operation for your environment.
A newer version of the camera, not available for this evaluation, has an external antenna for increased range. If the remote control key fob does not function at all, please contact technical support listed in Section 13.
4) Unable to Log in to online account.
Check your email "inbox" for instructions for accessing your account. If you forgot your password or did not receive a confirmation email, you can retrieve your password by going your account login page. On the "login" page by click the "Get Password" button. You can retrieve your password by entering your username(typically first initial first name last name, or first name last name; no spaces) and email address that you used to register. An email with a new password will sent to the email address on record.
5) When activating WLAN, the ability to operate the camera via the online account does not function.
Several WLAN router models (for example Netgear and Siemens) do not update their routing tables as frequent as most. One solution is to power off your WLAN router and then power it back on. Within a few minutes the Util4 Camera should be recognized and then you can use it as designed.
6) When clicking "stream" on the Camera page of my online account the streaming window shows all black or an error message is shown.
Sun's Java plug-in, version 1.3.4 or higher, must be loaded for the video stream to appear. Please wait for up to 60 seconds for the Java applet to load and streaming to begin. If after two minutes you don't see a video stream, please check to make sure you have Java loaded. Normally the java logo appears in the lower right applications panel of Windows XP. Right click on the cup and click "About Java Technology" to check your version.
A free download of the latest version of Java is available at http://www.java.com As of 1 February 2007, the latest version is Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 10. File size is 7.1 MB.
To check your version of Java installed, you can also simply go to http://www.java.com , click "verify installation and then the "verify installation" button. Once again, version 1.3.4 or higher is required for proper streaming.
Please follow the installation instructions shown on the Java download site. Normally, you must allow the installation of Java to proceed by acknowledging your browser's security warning that a software program is asking to be installed. This security warning is to prevent malicious software from installing without your awareness. In the case of Java, you should allow the program to install. Please note, the software version you download is specific to the browser with which you download. (For example, if you download Java with Internet Explorer, the version of Java is designed to operate with Internet Explorer. Streaming with Mozilla Firefox may then be problematic.)
